Rajasthan — The Quiet Presence of Wildlife

Wildlife encounters, patient observation and the natural world of northern India

When I think back on my journey through Rajasthan, I remember not only its remarkable architecture and vibrant streets, but also the quieter moments spent observing wildlife. Away from the crowds, the rhythm changes, and small movements begin to attract attention.

In Ranthambore, I watched langurs and deer in their natural surroundings. Elsewhere along the journey, colourful parakeets, monkeys and even the close-up detail of a camel offered different opportunities to explore the character and beauty of animal life.

I did not see a tiger in Ranthambore, but that experience reminded me that wildlife photography is never about guarantees. It is about being present, remaining patient and appreciating whatever nature chooses to reveal.

The story behind the photographs

Patience, observation and unexpected encounters

Ranthambore is known for its tigers, but my photographs tell a different story: the presence of langurs, deer and the quieter wildlife that inhabits the landscape. These encounters offered moments of observation, where behaviour, posture and natural light became more important than the search for a spectacular sighting.

From the vivid plumage of parakeets to the expressive features of monkeys and the delicate details of a camel's eye, I was drawn to the individuality of each animal. Sometimes, the most memorable photograph comes from simply paying attention.
