Rajasthan — The Colours of Everyday Life

Street scenes, vibrant markets and everyday encounters across northern India

What fascinated me about everyday life in Rajasthan was the extraordinary presence of colour. In the streets, markets and neighbourhoods, even the simplest scenes seemed to reveal unexpected combinations of light, movement and human activity.

This album brings together moments observed in Agra, Jaipur, Pushkar and Jodhpur. From the blue streets of Jodhpur to the colourful stalls of Jaipur and Pushkar, the photographs reflect the energy and diversity of daily life, often through small details that might otherwise go unnoticed.

I was particularly drawn to the contrast between lively streets and quieter moments: someone working, a familiar gesture, a smile or an ordinary scene transformed by its surroundings. These encounters are what made the journey feel so personal.

The story behind the photographs

Colours, gestures and the rhythm of the streets

The streets of Rajasthan reveal a fascinating mix of tradition and everyday life. In Jodhpur, blue-painted houses and narrow lanes create a distinctive visual atmosphere, while the markets of Jaipur and Pushkar bring together textiles, flowers, food and countless expressions of local craftsmanship.

What interests me most is how ordinary moments become photographs through colour, light and human presence. A street vendor, a musician or a passing figure can reveal as much about a place as its most celebrated monuments.
