Rajasthan — Faces of India — Beyond the Portrait

Faces, expressions and human encounters across Rajasthan and northern India

During my journey through Rajasthan and northern India, I found myself increasingly drawn to the people I encountered. Beyond the extraordinary architecture and vibrant streets, it was often a face, a gesture or an unexpected expression that stayed with me.

These portraits bring together moments from Agra, Jaipur, Udaipur, Pushkar, Jodhpur and Jaisalmer. Some are filled with colour and character; others are quieter, revealing the subtle beauty of a glance, a smile or a moment of stillness.

For me, portrait photography is about paying attention to the person in front of the camera. I wanted these photographs to reflect the individuality of each encounter, without reducing anyone to a symbol of a place or tradition.

The story behind the photographs

Expressions, character and human presence

From colourful turbans and traditional jewellery to spontaneous smiles and thoughtful expressions, these portraits reveal the remarkable variety of faces encountered throughout the journey. Each photograph offers a different balance of colour, light and personality.

What interests me most is the moment when a portrait becomes more than a description of someone's appearance. A direct gaze, a playful expression or a quiet gesture can create a connection that remains long after the encounter.
