Alaska — Glaciers, Wildlife and Endless Horizons

From Denali's vast wilderness to towering glaciers and remarkable marine wildlife

Alaska unfolds on an extraordinary scale, where sweeping mountain landscapes, immense glaciers and remote coastlines create a powerful sense of wilderness.

In Denali National Park, encounters with bears, moose and smaller woodland animals revealed the remarkable diversity of life across its forests and open landscapes.

Further south, journeys through icy waters brought unforgettable views of glaciers, seabirds, seals, sea otters and whales against the dramatic backdrop of Alaska's coastal mountains.

The story behind the photographs

In the presence of glaciers and wildlife

Alaska left a lasting impression through the sheer scale of its landscapes. In Denali National Park, the open valleys, green hills and distant mountains offered a sense of space that was difficult to capture in a single photograph. I was equally fascinated by the wildlife, from small birds and ground squirrels to the imposing presence of a grizzly bear and moose moving through the water.

The coastal part of the journey revealed a different world. Travelling by boat among mountains, glaciers and floating ice, I watched the scenery change with the weather and the light. The remarkable blue tones of the ice, the shapes of the glacier fronts and the movement of water created compositions that were constantly evolving.

Wildlife encounters made these excursions particularly memorable. Eagles, puffins, auklets, sea lions, seals and sea otters offered opportunities to observe very different behaviours, while the appearance of whales brought moments of anticipation and excitement. Photographing these animals in such vast surroundings reminded me how small we are in the presence of nature.
