Palawan — Between Turquoise Waters and Island Life

Limestone lagoons, tropical shores and everyday encounters in the Philippines

The waters of Palawan reveal an extraordinary palette of turquoise and blue, framed by tropical beaches, coconut palms and towering limestone cliffs.

From the peaceful shores of Flower Island to the lagoons and dramatic coastline of El Nido, this album explores the natural beauty of one of the Philippines' most distinctive island regions.

Beyond these landscapes, I remember the faces, gestures and everyday encounters that gave the journey a more personal dimension.

The story behind the photographs

Island light, limestone landscapes and human encounters

Palawan's coastline offers an extraordinary variety of photographic compositions. Around Flower Island, coconut palms, quiet beaches and simple waterfront buildings create a peaceful tropical atmosphere. Further north, the limestone formations and sheltered lagoons of El Nido reveal a more dramatic landscape, where the colours of the sea change with the light and the weather.

I was particularly drawn to the relationship between these natural surroundings and everyday island life. Traditional boats, moments spent by the water and encounters along the road offered opportunities to photograph something beyond the scenery itself.

The portraits in this album are an important part of that experience. Expressions, gestures and brief moments of connection brought a human dimension to a journey initially shaped by the beauty of the sea and its islands.
