Normandy — Cliffs, Harbours and Changing Light

A photographic journey through the dramatic cliffs of Étretat and the timeless harbour of Honfleur

What fascinates me about Normandy is the contrast between the dramatic coastline and the peaceful atmosphere of its historic harbours. At Étretat, the immense chalk cliffs rise above the English Channel, their shapes and colours constantly transformed by the light.

This album brings together photographs of Étretat's remarkable coastal formations and the harbour of Honfleur, where boats, reflections and old buildings create a very different sense of place. From vast seascapes to intimate maritime details, each scene offers its own photographic character.

Beyond these familiar landmarks, I am particularly drawn to the quieter moments: the changing tones of the cliffs, reflections in the harbour and small details that reveal the relationship between the sea, the landscape and everyday life.

The story behind the photographs

Chalk cliffs, harbour reflections and coastal heritage

The cliffs of Étretat are among Normandy's most distinctive natural landmarks. Shaped by marine erosion, their white chalk formations create striking compositions that change with the weather and the direction of the light.

In Honfleur, the historic harbour offers a more intimate photographic atmosphere. Boats, fishing equipment, architectural details and reflections in the water tell the story of a town closely connected to the sea.

Together, these two places reveal different expressions of the Normandy coast — one monumental, the other quietly human.
