Puglia — The Beauty of Southern Italy

Whitewashed villages, ancient olive trees and everyday life along the Adriatic coast

In Puglia, whitewashed villages, centuries-old olive trees and the blue waters of the Adriatic create a landscape with a character all its own.

From the trulli of Alberobello to the historic streets of Ostuni and Locorotondo, this album explores the architecture, traditions and everyday details of southern Italy.

I was equally drawn to the region's quieter pleasures — local markets, simple food, weathered doorways and the changing light along the coast.

The story behind the photographs

Whitewashed streets, ancient olive trees and Mediterranean traditions

Puglia has a distinctive architectural identity, from the conical roofs of Alberobello's trulli to the whitewashed streets of Ostuni and the historic centre of Locorotondo. Wandering through these towns, I was drawn to the contrasts between light and shadow, the textures of old stone and the small details that reveal everyday life.

Beyond the villages, ancient olive trees give the countryside a remarkable sense of continuity, while the coastline offers a different atmosphere of open horizons and Mediterranean light. Markets, traditional dishes and familiar Italian objects add another dimension to the photographs, reflecting a region where landscape, history and daily traditions remain closely connected.
