Bali & Lombok — Between Land, Sea and Everyday Life

Island landscapes, rural traditions and human encounters in Indonesia

Bali and Lombok reveal different rhythms of island life, from traditional fishing boats along the coast to rice terraces shaped by generations of cultivation.

This album brings together landscapes, rural traditions, markets and everyday encounters, reflecting the relationship between people and their surroundings.

What stayed with me most was the quiet beauty of ordinary moments — gestures, expressions and changing light that gave each place its own character.

The story behind the photographs

Rice terraces, island traditions and everyday gestures

The landscapes of Bali and Lombok reveal a close relationship between nature and daily life. Along the coast, traditional boats and fishing communities reflect the importance of the sea, while inland, rice cultivation shapes both the scenery and the rhythms of rural life.

Beyond these landscapes, I was drawn to the people and traditions encountered along the way. Markets, ceremonies, craftsmanship and small everyday gestures offered moments of connection, often more memorable than the places themselves.

Together, these photographs reflect what interests me in photographing unfamiliar places: observing how landscapes, traditions and human presence become part of the same visual story.
