Bohol & Cabileo — Wildlife, Island Light and Human Encounters

Tarsiers, tropical landscapes and everyday life in the Philippines

The smallest encounters often leave the strongest memories, and in Bohol, observing the extraordinary eyes and delicate movements of tarsiers was one of the highlights of my journey.

From the rolling Chocolate Hills to the warm evening light over traditional fishing boats, this album brings together wildlife, landscapes and the changing atmosphere of island life.

The portraits and everyday scenes were equally memorable, revealing the warmth, expressions and spontaneous moments that gave this journey its human dimension.

The story behind the photographs

Tarsiers, golden sunsets and the faces of island life

The tarsiers of Bohol offered a particularly memorable photographic experience. Their remarkable eyes, delicate features and quiet presence among the branches encouraged a patient approach, where small changes in posture and expression became the centre of attention. The Chocolate Hills provided a very different perspective on the island, with their distinctive rounded forms stretching across the landscape.

Along the coast, the atmosphere changed with the setting sun. Traditional boats and fishermen became silhouettes against the evening sky, creating compositions shaped by colour, reflection and the last light of the day.

Beyond these natural scenes, I was drawn to the people encountered along the way. Markets, shared smiles, traditional dance and everyday activities offered moments of connection that brought another dimension to the photographs. Together, these images reflect the variety of experiences that made this part of the Philippines so memorable.
