The Story

Columbia Glacier is retreating faster than almost any glacier on Earth, and this calving event happened just metres from our boat — no time to plan the shot, only to react. It remains one of the few moments in this collection where I chose to keep the force of the event rather than its stillness.
The frame holds the meeting of two very different kinds of time: the slow transformation of a glacier and the abrupt instant when part of it breaks away. The falling ice interrupts the stillness of the water, making the scale of the event difficult to separate from its movement.
I kept the sense of immediacy in this image. Not every photograph begins with a carefully anticipated composition; sometimes attention means being ready when the landscape changes in front of you.

Each print is signed and numbered by the artist and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
Once the edition of 15 for a given size is complete, the work will no longer be available in that size.
